Ark - National Flood Resilience Centre
Ark - the National Flood Resilience Centre: Training. Innovation. Communities. Research.
Flooding devastates communities. The OECD estimates that around 20% of the world`s population will be at risk of flooding by 2050 as our climate changes. In the UK alone, 5.2m homes and businesses are at risk.*
We can`t always prevent floods occurring but we can be better prepared.
The University of Hull and Humberside Fire and Rescue Service are joining forces to create Ark, the National Flood Resilience Centre. A world first, Ark provides realistic environments for businesses, specialists and communities to build resilience through innovation, research, community engagement and training.
Including a full sized floodable street scene, swift water facility and other settings, Ark will create safe, specific, real-life flood scenarios. As the risk of flooding increases, Ark will enable people who are deployed to work in and around water to be better trained. It`s facilities will support companies to develop and test innovative devices, materials and systems for flood resilience and for researchers to improve our understanding of floods and find better ways to predict, prepare for and manage the impact of flooding on individuals, communities and the economy.
