Environment Agency Springs To Action as Toddbrook Dam is Damaged by Rainwater Flooding
Following incredibly heavy rainfall over the last week, numerous areas of the UK are having to deal with subsequent flooding and structural repercussions that come with flooding of this extent.
An 'Unprecedented, fast moving emergency' was declared by the RAF who rushed to Toddbrook Dam earlier this week, resulting in the evacuation of the whole village. The 180-year-old structure, built in 1830, is being secured by engineers who are working to support the core which is dangerously close to collapse, endangering the town of Whaley Bridge which has been evacuated, fearing the worst. The future of the Dam and the town remains “in the balance” as volunteers work tirelessly to sustain the damage the rainfall has done.
Flood prevention and mitigation companies across the country are scrambling to help wherever they can. The Environment Agency has declared a severe flooding warning in Whaley Bridge and all of the surrounding areas as it works with the RAF and the Ambulance and Fire departments to get the damage under control and put measures in place to prevent this level of damage happening again.
The Environment Agency works across the whole country to mitigate and prevent flooding and you can hear The Environment Agency speak about the work they are doing at in their theatre at The Flood Expo which is taking place on the 11th & 12th September at the NEC, Birmingham.
The Flood Expo and The Environment Agency works closely together to not only spread the word about the problems flooding can create and the work they are doing to help, but also to advocate and support the companies within the flood industry who are all working to innovate new technologies and products to help victims of flooding across the UK and the rest of the world.
More than ever, it is incredibly important to make sure that if you are a company that tackles or prevents the effects of flooding, you are coming together with other members of the industry to prevent this kind of disaster happening again. The Flood Expo is arguably the only trade show to properly showcase your product or service but also to network with like-minded flood professionals.
