Loughborough University, Previsico Ltd
Dr Dapeng Yu is a Senior Lecturer at Loughborough University and CTO of Previsico, a Loughborough University spinout funded by Innovate UK. He has over 18 years of experience in flood modelling and flood risk management. His research expertise lies in the area of flood modelling and flood risk management. His research has been carried out through both the theoretical development of river flow and flood inundation models and the practical application of such models globally to support decision making. He is the author of FloodMap, a 1D/2D coupled flood inundation model designed for high-resolution flood simulations in urban settings, including surface water flooding. He has been funded eight times by RCUK since 2014, five times as PI. He is a visiting professor at East China Normal University and sits on the editorial boards of two Springer journals.
Surface water flood forecasting in an uncertain climate
This seminar will focus on surface water flood forecasting in a changing climate where weather is becoming increasingly untypical and uncertain. It will start with an evaluation of rainfall forecast for surface water flood prediction, followed by the recent developments in real-time surface water forecasting. The seminar will finish with an evaluation of different approaches to communicating uncertain surface water flood risks to stakeholders in different sectors.
