Aerial survey - options for data acquisition
Aerial survey is a primary means of data acquisition for mapping and ground modelling. Different platforms including satellites, manned aircraft and drones all have their part to play, but each has both technical and economic advantages and disadvantages. Both LiDAR data and aerial photography can be used for generating ground models, and again each technology has its advantages and disadvantages. A case study illustrates the choices to be made.
