Jo started her professional life as a pesticide chemist in Defra.
Jo moved to the resilience sphere in 2001, supporting the UK response to foot and mouth disease. In April 2003 Jo joined the newly established Regional Resilience Team in Government Office for Yorkshire and The Humber establishing the strategic delivery framework for the team, successfully embedding new UK resilience arrangements and leading the response to a number of emergencies including widespread flooding and swine ‘flu. She joined MHCLG in February 2011 as part of the newly formed Resilience and Emergencies Division supporting the response to emergencies including civil disorder, flooding, industrial action and Ebola. Jo became the Head of Resilience for the north of England in January 2015 leading the response to and recovery from emergencies including flooding, terrorist attacks and the Grenfell Fire. Jo now leads the Policy, Strategy and Resilience Division in RED, delivering our longer term thinking on resilience.
